Tillbilly seeks to "reimagine retail" by introducing blockchain into the diverse and lucrative retail industry.

Theirs is a 'tap and go' Point-Of-Sale hardware terminal that will enable daily shoppers and merchants to make contactless payments, get digital receipts and to benefit from loyalty rewards and promotions without worrying about the complexity and volatility associated with cryptocurrencies.

They also say their network is environmentally sustainable and could rid the world of unnecessary receipts.

The Tillbilly team is deploying the Stellar blockchain because they believe it will allow them to provide low-cost services.

They also say it's scalable, immutable and secure.

Now that their solution is gaining traction, they are raising funds through a crowd sale to take their idea to the next level.

Their public sale is scheduled for Q3 2018.

Project Use Case

The Tillbilly white paper highlights what the project is all about. It's a good starting point for anyone willing to look at the project's chances of success.

Their idea revolves around transformation of the debit payments industry.

They say the current non cash payments, specifically debit cards, are monopolised by banks, payment gateways and card processing companies which charge high processing fees.

Their argument is that these monopolies consume between $6-15 billion per year in fees alone.

Their vision is to replace these middlemen with a blockchain based tap and go POS system that's integrated with existing POS retail systems.

With Tillbilly, they believe they can disrupt the debit payments industry.

First, Tillbilly is decentralized and attracts low fees.

It's also integrated with existing POS terminals, allowing for a smooth, hassle free shopping experience that's fast, affordable and secure.

They also have a clever idea of beating cryptocurrency price volatility using their two asset token model. This means that shoppers can comfortably use cryptocurrencies to shop, without worrying about price fluctuations associated with them.

They believe that their solution is designed with the daily shopper in mind, regardless of their knowledge about blockchain.

They also say that most shoppers and retailers still prefer using traditional receipts and the few that give digital receipts are usually bogged down by the complexities of integration.

Their plan is to swap traditional paper receipts with digital ones.

They say they are technically different from other solutions focussing on debit payments because they have a hardware POS terminal that integrates the blockchain and existing NFC cards.

Tillbilly also uses the Stellar blockchain and its team believes that this allows them to provide low fee services to millions of people.

Their solution also features low cost but highly effective rewards and promotions programs.

In a nutshell, Tillybilly provides low fees for merchants and cash back discounts for shoppers, and allows for seamless NFC payments.

TILLBILLY Team Overview

Every successful project has an experienced and hardworking team at its core and Tillbilly is not different.

Their team has the advantage of having worked together for more than five years, delivering SaaS solutions.

It's made of professionals in architecture and design, UI, app development, software engineering, sales and marketing, mechanical and industrial designs, and he blockchain.

Tillbilly CEO and founder Sarthak Moghe leads the team. He's an IT solution architect with over 12 years’ experience.

From his LinkedIn profile we can see he's worked for blue chip tech firms like IBM, Oracle, and Wipro.

Other notable figures are Eddie Cejvan, cofounder and CTO of Tillybilly. He's an IT expert, angel investor, and entrepreneur.

Other team members work as community manager, marketing director, legal consultants, communication consultant, and engineering director.

At the heart of this team is a group of advisors led by Rajat Nigam, the CEO of Bungee tech.

How Does The Token Work

The Tillbilly ecosystem uses the BILL cryptocurrency token.

The main purpose of BILLS is to facilitate payments for goods and services between Tillbilly users, including shoppers and merchants.

BILL is a utility token and is the primary means of exchange in the Tillbilly platform.

At the start of the project, the Tillbilly team will issue one billion BILLS drawn from the Genesis Account.

All the tokens will be created at once, and no extra tokens will be generated after this.

After the token generation event, only 15% of tokens, amounting to 150 million BILLS will be sold in the crowd sales.

The bulk of the tokens, about 40% of the total tokens, go into a 'future reserve'.

300 million BILLS will also be reserved for the BILL pool to maintain supply of bills.

If the project reaches its funding goals, the team plans to use 47% of proceeds to grow the network.

Their immediate plan is to buy 10,000 Tillbilly terminals in the next one year. A further 33% of funds will be deployed to the Tillbilly Escrow pool.

How The Investors Make Money

Tillbilly investors can take advantage of hefty discounts provided by the platform to reward early investors.

Other than this, the platform seems to have put together an ambitious program that rewards active users with BILLS on a sliding scale.

While this is a good thing for investors, it could have a negative impact on the value of tokens.

High supply of tokens could mean reduced value.

There's also the little issue of the team reserving so much of their tokens in the reserve and escrow pools, a move that could create an influx of tokens.

Opportunities & Risks

Before we look at the opportunities in the debit payments industry, it’s worth noting that it's worth trillions of dollars.

Interestingly, research in the whitepaper credits that most customers prefer debit over credit cards for daily transactions.

As the debit payments industry continues to grow, there's a huge opportunity for debit payments solutions like Tillbilly.

Because retail customers are driving this growth, Tillbilly stands a good chance of disrupting the industry.

They say that theirs is a unique idea as it's the first one to use a hardware POS system powered by a blockchain.

Tillbilly could pioneer blockchain debit payments, serving an extensive network of merchants and customers across the globe.

The only concern is if the project will penetrate the monopolized and highly competitive debit payments industry.

Granted, some centralized contactless cards offer fast transactions speeds that most blockchains can't seem to keep up with.

POSITIVE

Overall, the Tillbilly project looks like an idea whose point has come. For a long time, the debit payments industry has become synonymous with high costs.

Tillbilly's solution offers low fees and high transaction speeds. Additionally, they seem to have a cohesive team and this is an advantage when you have such an ambitious project.

There's also a working product, providing users with a feel of how the solution works in the real world.

On the flip side, there's the danger of the project failing to deliver on its promises. Many other payments projects have in the past failed on the integration front.

There's also the threat of competition from both centralized and decentralized solution providers.

While centralized debit payments service providers are known for their speeds, blockchain solutions are yet to be tested at scale.

As such, no one can really tell for sure if the project succeeds on this front.

That said, the project itself has some good qualities that could make it the premier cashless payments provider at a time when the world is moving into the digital space. This sort of investment requires a very long term outlook though.
